Miss PNG TikTok Video: Turn Negativity into Positive Message

A lot has been said about Lucy Maino and a lot has been said about the Pageant. I personally would not judge and make any commentary about a TikTok video that's gone viral. That was a personal account, not an official account that would warrant my critic. I reserve my comments as Lucy is the only one who knows her intentions. To ridicule her of all negativity is one I will not do.

I have worked with these young women as a sponsor and accord them all the same respect.

The simplest of all matters arising is that, we are all human and we make mistakes. Whatever the intention there was when the video was produced is one only Lucy knows. The fact of the matter is, none of what's said about her will break her as a person.

I for one will encourage her to pick up from the damaging remarks and move on. Challenges are great as only the bravest of women withstand such and come out champions. Women especially should encourage our womenfolk to help them get up and take the next step forward. We are not perfect.

Lucy represented PNG in football and well before she became Miss PNG at the tender age of just a teen whilst studying in the States. In 2014, she assisted me with a few of our cultural programs by performing at the Bowes Museum in Los Angeles and at several media events throughout LA.

She was a confident young woman who would dress in her traditional Kairuku costume and dance to the tune of the Kundu drums whom her mother would be beating. At the Museums where we invited hundreds of guests, she would speak confidently about her country Papua New Guinea.

She was already an ambassador before she became Miss PNG. She is outgoing, full of charisma, confident and just been a young woman expressing herself through dance and unfortunately she chose a platform that has so many people attack her.

Public figure or not, we all have a duty to have our own people corrected, guided, assisted and get them back on their feet.

What if this happens to your sister, aunt or daughter, you just don't go all out condemning them, no. These are humans that have minds that react and hearts that bit. Help provide a constructive solution.

For the Pageant, we assist and sponsor all platforms we think should be supported. It's good to see a lot of suggestions from the public. Please do get involved and assist the committee. Do not sit back, wait for a dramatic event to happen then start pouring out suggestions.

I have read a few good suggestions. Do write professionally via email or send a letter to the MPIP committee and offer your assistance.

Like all other platforms, we the sponsors can only do so much to assist. Fallouts are bound to happen.

For my sisters who have commented negatively, I have screenshot your comments, I will suggest to MPIP PNG and all other PNG Platforms we support nationwide to invite you to meet with them so they can take on some of your recommendations. Be involved so you can contribute meaningfully and appropriately and not in this manner as we women must assist each other grow.

For the rest of us, let us not sit around and wait for another issue to pop up and lay down our critics.

Make good use of your laptops and keyboards, write business plans, write novels, write blogs to publish etc. Help our mamas with their bank loan proposal writing.

Lucy, I am a phone call or text away.
